Thomas Stockhammer

Industry Fellow: Thomas Stockhammer

I am very pleased and happy to be selected as SVTA Industry Fellow. DASH-IF was founded to make the ISO standard on Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) a commercial success and to provide a technology for global media and TV distribution over the Internet, traditional broadcast systems and mobile – and we seemingly succeeded. On behalf of Qualcomm, I had been involved from day one since 2009 in the development of the standard and the foundation of DASH-IF in 2012, leading the editing work in ISO MPEG and 3GPP as well chairing the DASH-IF Technical Working Group. The recent DASH-IF transition to being a member of the SVTA family is rewarding and exciting. DASH remains the only open global standard addressing many diverse markets. Nevertheless, most rewarding is the continuous collaboration with excellent people, many of whom are now friends. Looking forward to more good years to come in the SVTA community.
